I haven’t been sleeping well the last couple of nights. That really has nothing to do with today’s column but it’s been weighing on me. Sometimes I get indigestion/heartburn, like the thirty-eight-year-old man that I am, and laying down makes it worse so I fall asleep sitting up in the living room starting my slow transition to my bedroom. This wouldn’t be a problem if I didn’t have sleep apnea that’s made worse when I fall asleep sitting up. This means I have to kind of position my head in a way that makes it seem like it’s lying down. In other words before I fall asleep I have to lie to my body so it doesn’t try to kill me. It’s exhausting and uncomfortable, and I just want to sleep in my effin bed for the whole night… needless to say, I’m tired Geeklings which is a bummer way to start what is sure to be a fantastic week.
Dragging ass on a Monday is the pits and there’s that worry that it’s going to set the tone for the whole rest of the week. “I hate Mondays” is a mantra not a way of life, and I’m trying to be positive about what lies ahead. Luckily there is just too much awesome in the forecast to really bring me down. Mixed among that awesome is some very real emotions waiting to be released. If I make it through this week without sobbing like a baby I’ll consider it a win. I don’t expect it but hey, we can dream.
What exactly is going to bring out these emotions? Well, I’m glad you asked. Let’s kick this latest edition of the Week In Geek off with one of our two series finales…
BoJack Horseman Final Eight Episodes– My anxiety levels for these final eight episodes are high. We spent the first half of this final season with a BoJack that seemed redeemable. A horse that could maybe find peace with a new phase of life only for the mid-season finale to bring that reality crashing down. Being reminded of all the crappy things BoJack has committed across the run of this show is like getting kicked in the shin and immediately poked in the eye. It’s mean, unfair, and a reminder that BoJack Horseman is unafraid in making you feel uncomfortable and demands the viewer to make a choice. Forgive BoJack, condemn BoJack, or sit on the couch emotionally numb while everything plays out in front of you thus spiraling you into a dark pit of heavy emotions once the season concludes. As a BoJack fan, I’ve experienced all three of these and now we have one final go to see the fate of BoJack Horseman. There’s a lot of heart in this story and I fully expect it to end in the best possible way for these characters and this story. I also anticipate an ending that makes the viewer decide thus forcing them to look themselves in the mirror…
The Good Place finale– Speaking of things I’m not ready for may I present to you the finale of The Good Place? Oh boy, I love this show. It brings me such complete and utter joy. It’s like a hug for my soul. A show that isn’t afraid to make a crisp social commentary while also making you think of your mortality, philosophy, and what constitutes being a “good person”. The Good Place is daring and funny but it’s also ambitious and warm. It makes you want to be a better person. It makes you want to eat allllll the shrimp while yelling “Bortles” as you ride a trolley trying to figure out who lives or dies… well maybe to that but you get the point. What a tremendous television experience this has been and I’m going to miss it so. But that’s Jeremy Bearimy, baby.
Fast 9 trailer- With every ending we get a new beginning or a new trailer from a long-standing franchise. That’s right Geeklings, this Friday we are getting our first look at Fast 9 and I’m having a tough time living my life a quarter-mile at a time. Why isn’t it Friday yet? What has La Familia been up to since The Fate of the Furious? What’s dad life like for Dom? Is John Cena enough to fill the void of both The Rock and Jason Statham? I for one can’t wait to see Dom Toretto and the rest of the gang again. Like the last movie had The Rock hanging out of a car and re-directing a missile at a submarine with his bare hands! What kind of insanity does Fast 9 have in store for us?!
Super Bowl- Football season ends this Sunday in the grandest of fashions as the 49ers and the Chiefs look to lock horns. If you’re not into the football aspect of the Super Bowl then good news, there are other things to be excited about! How about a halftime show starring Jennifer Lopez and Shakira. How about commercials? What about some new movie trailers? What about food?! All this can be yours come Sunday and then we can put another crappy Giants season to bed and start being hopefully for next year. One can dream.
