It has been quite some time since we’ve had any new Stranger Things to discuss. The last thing we saw was Hopper working in that Russian chain gang and then COVID hit and there’s been a long stretch of what the Never Ending Story referred to as the nothing. Sure, we’ve had Finn Wolfhard make comments that this upcoming fourth season of Stranger Things would be some of the darkest storytelling yet for the series in addition to the fact that we probably wouldn’t see it until, checks clock, 2022 which is all types of cool.
But mostly, we’ve had nothing… until today that is.
The Stranger Things writers Twitter handle, which tends to be quite amusing, tweeted a link to this cryptic video this afternoon, and let’s be honest here, what the hell is going on with this?!
Listen, I’d love to break down the clues and possible implications of this “teaser” (?) with you but the truth is, I started my morning by being attacked by a wasp that was living in the handle of my office’s window and from there, my day just went. Needless to say, I’m a bit tired and in desperate need of a beer. Or gin. Or a hug. Something. I don’t have the energy to break this thing down frame by frame.
That doesn’t mean, I don’t want to hit on a few things though because I think this video might, miiiiight, be hinting at a possible Stranger Things trailer/news tomorrow.
Clearly, we’re looking at various rooms in the now shutdown Hawkins labs, and maybe one shot at the Star Court Mall (?), while some quite soothing Russian music plays in the background. Yet, it’s not what’s in the video that I would like to focus on. No, it’s the description that intrigued me the most.
“HNL Control Room- Due to technical difficulties, Hawkins National Laboratory will be closed until further notice. We will be back in service tomorrow at 9:00 AM ET”
Obviously, this video was dropped with the intent to make Stranger Things fans dig through the scattering images for possible clues for the upcoming fourth season. Buuuuuut why list a time and date for the site to be up and running again? You only do that type of thing if you’re planning on dropping a teaser, trailer, or news at that provided time. Or you do this because you’re a monster who takes pleasure in torturing your fanbase. Those are literally the only two options.
So, should we expect some Stranger Things news tomorrow? I think so. Just like this upcoming New York Giants season, I’m cautiously optimistic. I don’t believe we’ll get a trailer, I’d love to be wrong, but maybe we’ll get episode titles? A release date? Something other than Hopper in Russia? Hell, at this point I would just be happy seeing the title card with the theme song playing.
What do you think Geeklings? What did you make out of this strange video? What image stood out to you the most? Was it the blood-covered Magic 8 ball? Or the rainbow room? What could this all mean? Sound off in the comments below or throw me a line over on Twitter @iamgeek32. And let’s keep our fingers crossed that we’ll have some Stranger Things content to discuss tomorrow. I’ll be leaving the door open three inches in hopes of.
