Another Geek Encounter

Author’s Note: I want to preface this story with the fact that I own more than just S.T.A.R. Labs clothing.

I’m not entirely sure what it is about Saturdays but it has become the beacon for my geeky encounters during the week. I guess it’s because I get to wear every day Kevin attire opposed to the shirt and ties I wear during the week. That’s my working theory.

Today’s chance geek encounter comes with my exiting of a store. Since I wasn’t raised like a savage, I held a door open for a woman and who I’m assuming was her son. The weather has been fantastic today so I was just sporting a t-shirt (S.T.A.R. Labs style) and jeans. The kid I opened the door for was wearing a flat brimmed Deadpool hat and matching hoodie. Speaking as a child of the 90’s I never understood the appeal of flat brimmed hats. Who is that for? I’m not just saying that because I look dumb in them. Honestly I think that everyone looks dumb in them. Seriously people break in your brims.

That’s all besides the point. After I held the door open, like a polite human, I started making my way to my car. Truth be told I was listening to some live Pearl Jam and had some serious rocking out to get back to. As I was heading back to my car I heard behind me. “Sir. Excuse me sir.” Instantly I thought  I dropped something so as I was turning around I was doing that head swivel thing where you try and glance at the person but are also trying to make sure you didn’t just drop something important. The whole exercise took less than a second. I finally made eye contact with the kid who called for my attention and he says, “I really, really like your shirt. It’s very cool.” Immediately I recognized the coolness of this moment and returned the favor by telling him I liked his hat. Yes I know I just ranted about how I hate flat brimmed hats, but it did have the Deadpool logo on it so I gave the kid a pass. He seemed happy that I recognized his geeky hat, and said thanks.

As I was getting into my car I heard him explaining to, who I assume was, his mother what S.T.A.R. Labs is and why it was awesome. I’m telling you fellow Geeklings, I’m really starting to enjoy these moments. I’m out to break down the walls and bring geekiness to everyone. One t-shirt or hoodie at a time.

For those of you who were curious… I totally rocked my face off once I turned my car back on. #rockstarstatus
