Week In Geek- Stunners, Snyder Cut, & Falcon and the Winter Soldier

Geeklings, it so good to be back. I’m sorry for the lack of content last week but work was a bit, uh, hectic. Life-consuming. Exhausting. Seven days. We’re talking about a sixty-hour workweek that left me with little or no time for anything let alone writing for your beautiful eyeholes. I was so busy and consumed with work last week that I didn’t read anything (novel, comic, graphic novel, cooking instructions) from Wednesday to Sunday. Do you have any idea how soul-crushing that felt?! I try to read every day but not having the time or energy to do so for five days, well, it had my mental sanity hanging by some very thin threads. So if you thought I just vanished like Billy and Tommy after that what comes next for the Scarlet Witch column, please rest assured that I am still here and excited to dive into this week.

And what a week we have ahead of us! A part of me is almost sort of happy that I took last week off to keep the creative juices fresh because we’ve got a ton of content to focus our attention on.

For starters, tomorrow is National Stone Cold Steve Austin Day (March 16th… 3-16…3:16) which means get your Steveweisers cold and your Stunners ready because I hear some breaking glass and you know what that means.

We then follow what should be a national holiday, seriously, give me time off or allow me to give Stunners to random people you cowards, with the release of the Snyder Cut. That’s right, it’s finally happening. For better or for worse. Listen, I have been more than a little vocal about how I feel about the Snyder Cut, the Cult of Snyder, and how the toxicity behind this movement overshadows the movie itself. You can’t have one without the other. That doesn’t mean that I’m not going to watch it, Tweet about it, and probably write something up for your eyeholes. It’s too big to ignore at this point and I want to try and come in objectively. If it turns out to be good, I’ll be the first one to say that I was surprised by the film and give it the credit it deserves. But at four hours… man, I’m going to have to break this into a multiple-day viewing. Have to. No way I’m going to sit there waiting for my eyes to bleed as yet another “Halleluiah” cover plays and Batman starts dropping f-bombs with his death bombs.  Remember, I said my sanity is already hanging by a thread and four hours of Snyder Cut will surely push me over.

With that being said, the reactions online have been quite positive and that has surprised me. I figured if you were in the Cult of Snyder then this was already “the greatest movie ever made” and if you didn’t like his other DC movies then not much probably would change here. But it seems people from both divides are enjoying the movie which makes me all types of curious about how I’m going to react. At this point, I see my viewing of the Snyder Cut as some deep introspective journey that will result in seeing myself differently after the conclusion… or maybe it’ll just be a long superhero movie I don’t care for. Can’t wait to find out.

If you’re able to survive the four hours of the Snyder Cut then Friday has a real treat for you with the first episode of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Now this, this I’m excited about! I started reading the first Sam Wilson Captain America omnibus in order to prepare for the series, and I’m not going to lie, the last trailer makes me want to leave the house with my replica Captain America shield and start throwing down. The Mrs. says that’s a no-no though soooo instead I’ll hold it and pose for pictures with Hudson the Cat.

Not only do Sam and Bucky make for the perfect MCU odd couple but it looks like Falcon is going to be telling an important story about representation and fighting for what’s right. Not to mention, this show looks beautiful. I can’t believe it’s not a movie. And with six episodes, at a half-hour in length, there’s no time to be wasted. Give me all that Cap Shield throwing please and thank you.

As I was saying, not a bad week at all. You Geeklings up for it? What are you most excited about? Be sure to sound off in the comments or throw me a line over on Twitter @iamgeek32. Start organizing your schedules now because things are going to move pretty fast from here on out. I’ll see you every step of the way!
