So if you tuned into our FaceySpace page you would have seen me stating that I would not be posting tonight, but excitement levels are a bit high in the I Am Geek household so it turns out that was just a lie. Allow me to give you a little bit of back story.
I started this blog with the intention of having an outlet for my geeky thoughts, ideas, and love for pop culture. I felt there were enough things occurring daily in the world of geek that I would have plenty of subject matter, and much to my great joy I’ve been able to maintain momentum and write six days a week about subjects that I love. I have a vast array of interests and obsessions and this blog allows me to cover them in any manner I choose. The goal is to eventually turn I Am Geek from a blog into a fully functioning website where you can find the geeky views of a collection of different writers who have the same amount of passion and insight as I do. That’s the goal, and we’re not there yet but we’re building. It’s only been three months or so.
Last week my sister (Hi Jen!) tagged me in a writing application for a website called Fan Fest. I’m not sure how many of you are aware, but Stephen Amell, of Arrow fame, has started his own comic con that he brings city to city. From what I’ve read is it’s small but he makes up for it with the large amount of actors and actresses he brings to the Heroes & Villains Fest and I plan on attending one this July. My sister informed me that the website affiliated with the con was looking for writers and suggested that I should apply. Having nothing to lose I said “what the hell”.
I came home from work carefully picked out two posts from I Am Geek, wrote up an application and sent it away. Well today I received an email from the Editor and Chief of Fan Fest telling me that I have a writing position with them! I’m beyond excited for the opportunity and am very much looking forward to it. While I don’t know yet what capacity my role is, I have to email back tomorrow to discuss what I would like to write (such freedom), I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t kind of ecstatic about the news.
Now how will this effect i Am Geek? I’m not entirely sure but I think very little. I would like to continue posting on the site six days a week, and not knowing my writing schedule for Fan Fest, I think that’s still very possible. The goal is still to build a steady foundation here and expand. But Fan Fest allows me the opportunity to get my name out there and build a fan base to a larger audience (not that I’m not grateful to those of you who read here. You are not forgotten but we’re looking to add to you guys!). If anything I could see the postings here shrinking a tad, but that’s small potatoes at the moment.
For the most part I just wanted to sign on here and share the exciting news with you, my fellow Geeklings. 2016 is going to be a year of big things and I feel that I Am Geek was the first step of many awesome things to come. I’ll keep you posted as things start to develop and I hope you guys will continue to follow me here, and travel a little ways down the interweb road and visit at Fan Fest once I start posting there. We’re going to take the interwebs over one website at a time!
I’ll be back tomorrow with a new post, but couldn’t help myself from sharing the exciting news! Thank you all for all the comments and support for this little site. I’m beyond happy to bring you guys along for the ride. We’re just getting started.
