Week In Geek- Sharp Objects, Return of Lando, & Captain Marvel

Geeklings, a very happy Tuesday (…Tuesday?) to you all! That’s right, the Week In Geek has shifted a day because I spent Monday celebrating the birth of the sister person. I didn’t want to rush through a column just to put one out and, you know, family comes first and all. Don’t worry though, it may be a day late but we’ve still got brand new content for your eyeholes.

I’m looking at my schedule for the week and I can already tell you guys it’s going to be a tough writing week. I’m sorry in advance. I’m thinking I’ll be able to get a column in tomorrow (might be a re-hashing of Fan Fest’s Pull List) but I probably won’t be able to get back here until Saturday which is a real bummer. Don’t worry though, I’m on vacation for the next two weeks so there will be tons of content coming your way.

On top of that, if you want more of yours truly (and why wouldn’t you) you can catch me tonight on my buddy Jeff Schaeffer newest podcast, the very cleverly titled, Schaeffer’s Pub which gives you the pub atmosphere without the bar tab. You guys can find me there at eight o’clock eastern and all you have to do is click here.

Now that the plugs are out of the way, let’s get down to the week ahead.

sharp objects1. Sharp Objects- This really should have been on last week’s list, but I missed it. It happens. I kind of regret it though because after watching it on Sunday I think HBO has their next True Detective on their hands… season one. We don’t talk about season two. Sharp Objects is based on the incredibly messed up novel by Gillian Flynn and stars Amy Adams in a very non-typical Amy Adams role. It’s dark, atmospheric, and as of episode one superbly acted. With only eight episodes in the season, this is sure to fill the Game of Thrones void. If you’re looking for a show that will make you all squirmy in the insides then this is it.

Image result for lando2. Billy Dee Williams- One of the benefits of doing the Week In Geek a day later is being able to discuss news items that broke late in the day. News items like Billy Dee Williams returning as Lando for Star Wars Episode IX. That’s right, the coolest man in the galaxy is returning for JJ Abrams trilogy closer and will join the cast that now includes Keri Russell in an undisclosed role. It’ll be interesting seeing Lando respond to Han’s death and perhaps giving Chewie a bit more to do or maybe this is another situation where the new trilogy is setting up the death of a classic character. Oh god, I don’t think I could take that.

No automatic alt text available.3. Captain Marvel- Over the weekend Brie Larson posted a picture to her Instagram that informed the world that shooting on Captain Marvel, at least for her, had concluded. If the film is indeed done with filming I think it’s safe to start a trailer countdown. Perhaps at D23? The only thing with that is the public very rarely gets to see the D23 trailers. Anyone else remember searching for that bootleg Infinity War trailer last year? I literally spent hours/days. In true Marvel fashion, I would expect a trailer when we least expect it.

4. Orange Is the New Black season 6- I am massively behind when it comes to Orange is the New Black, having stopped watching after season two, but I know people still get excited about this show and I Am Geek is a site for the people. The trailer for season six has dropped and if you look carefully you’ll notice that some of our favorite convicts are missing. What does this mean for the upcoming season? Is it possible that they didn’t make it because this is just a teaser? I don’t know but it gives you something to talk about so that’s pretty cool.

There you have it Geeklings. All the best things to look forward to this week. What are you the most excited about? Sound off in the comments or you can find me on the Twitter @iamgeek32. I’ll see everyone here tomorrow and then sporadically throughout the week. Just think though, only three more days until vacation and then I’m all yours. Don’t forget to check me out on the live stream of Schaeffer’s Pub tonight at eight o’clock. Just click here
