Game of Thrones is over, behold the summer of Stranger Things!
Are you guys ready? I know we’re a little more than a month away from the release of the third season of Stranger Things but I am fully aboard the hype train. Choo Choo baby! If you’re asking how one gets aboard this fabled hype train, well, you can start by re-watching the two seasons of content that’s out there right now. If you follow me on Twitter (@iamgeek32) then you’ve seen that I’ve been live-tweeting my re-watch of season one which I completed last night! I’ve seriously lost count of how many times I’ve watched the first season of Stranger Things, I’m ballparking anywhere from six to eight, but spending some time away from Hawkins really made this re-watch shine. I was instantly drawn back in and I realized how much I missed this universe. That’s part of the problem of these season dumps. With all this content it’s easy to forget how much you love something when there are a million other things set to distract you. I love Stranger Things and it’s good to be back.
We’ll be starting our season two re-watch either tonight or tomorrow and I’m pumped. I haven’t watched season two since it initially aired. I never went back for that great re-watch or that great re-re-watching. It wasn’t because I thought the season was bad, because it wasn’t. As you recall, I loved it. The thing is, I was trying to balance a million other things. Show reviews, comic write-ups, movies, a blossoming romance. It wasn’t like I was living alone anymore. I had to divvy out my time which sadly meant only one viewing of season two. Until tonight that is. Everything will feel pretty fresh and new which is the perfect lead into season three in July. Of course, I’ll be live tweeting along again because it’s fun and who doesn’t want to discuss Stranger Things? I might even have spaced this out enough where I can maybe re-watch season two twice… really get myself set for what’s to come while making up for my re-watching neglect.
All this begs the questions, how will I Am Geek cover this third season of Stranger Things? That’s what today’s column is about. I want to hear from you guys. I know that Netflix isn’t going to roll this season out one episode at a time despite how nicely I ask them, but it doesn’t mean that we can’t. There’s no way that I’m going to be able to watch one episode a week. The internet is too cruel with spoilers and I want to know what’s going on just as badly. It’s been almost two years, I don’t want to wait any longer than I have to, you know? But that doesn’t mean that we can’t cover it one episode at a time.
Would you guys like to see an episode by episode review of this third season on a weekly, or maybe daily, basis? I’m not even sure how that would work having seen the episodes already and knowing what comes next. Or would you prefer one large review of the season followed by a number of think pieces and theories? I really enjoyed the Game of Thrones reviews and you guys seemed to enjoy them too so I wanted to give you the option. It’s much different with the season dumps and I can’t stress the importance of making sure these water cooler shows survive enough.
I want to do something unique when it comes to Stranger Things. There’s no clue to when season four will come, if there even is a season four. Man, wouldn’t that be something? A show as massive as this not announcing that this would be the final season. It would kind of take the pressure off and allow the story to breathe naturally without the scrutiny. Of course, that would change once people finished the season but it would be kind of cool to see someone attempt to pull off. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want that at all. I want as much Stranger Things as this story will allow. Maybe one or two more seasons by the looks of it, but I want it all. And I want to give you as much content to read as possible.
So, the floor is yours. How would you like to see the site cover the show? Sound off in the comments either here, on our Facebook page, or on Twitter (@iamgeek32). Any and all suggestions are welcomed. Maybe I’ll do something like a warm up with season two, besides live tweeting, to get that hype train rolling. Fourth of July will be here before you know it, and with it comes the show of the summer. Let’s do this Geeklings!
