Before we get into today’s post I’m going to take a minute to brag. Yes brag. This is currently my third post of the night with my other two belonging to Fan Fest (which you can read here aaaaaaaaaaaaand here). When I started writing for Fan Fest I was a little bit worried about how it would effect my postings to I Am Geek, but (knock on wood) so far things are going pretty well. Be sure to drop me a visit at Fan Fest and let me know what you guys think of the stuff I’m writing. Also tell your friends.
Now that that’s out of the way, what a week this has been for trailers, huh? Yesterday was the release of the first full trailer of season 6 of Game of Thrones, and today saw the preview trailer for the premier trailer of Captain America: Civil War (that’s a mouth full). If you missed it feel free to check it out below.
Literally nothing happens here!!! Nothing. Yet it’s the most exciting geeky thing to happen today outside of the Civil War II teaser featuring Hawkeye (*shameless plug* again check out my piece on Fan Fest to see what I mean *end of shameless plug*). I’ve spent most of last night and today digesting the Game of Thrones trailer (and I’ve got thoughts people. Ooooooooooh do I have thoughts) and then Marvel goes and drops this little nugget. And now my mind has it’s own civil war going on as it tries to figure out what to focus on (see what I did there?). Also as a side note I would like to discuss how wonderful of a world we live in where we get a trailer to a trailer!! Just great, great stuff.
I expect tomorrow’s trailer (which I very much hope is dropped at midnight) to have a little more substance then the trailer released before Thanksgiving. Don’t get me wrong I have watched that trailer more times then I would like to admit (current polls show it at a level where I could recite most of the dialogue. What?!), and think it’s fantastic. While that trailer built the foundation to what would be coming I do believe tomorrow will start shaping what we should expect to see.
For starters Spider-Man. Could we please, please, please just get a glimpse. A spiderweb. A snappy, off screen comment. Something. I believe it was the third Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer that gave us a glimpse of Vision, and it was awesome. Just enough to get the blood pumping. That’s all that I’m asking for here. I know that Marvel wants to make his arrival in the MCU a big deal, which it is, but they should also give the fans that aren’t in the know the heads up that ole web head is going to be showing up alongside the likes of Captain America and Iron Man. Plus as a comic nerd I know how big a role Spider-Man had in the Civil War story line so I’m curious to see if that holds true in the MCU.
I’d also like to see a little more of the villains. That’s right Geeklings, this movie has actual villains too! I’m sure most of you were thinking that Tony Stark would be the films main antagonist but I think it all boils down to perception. There will be people who side with Cap and there will be people who side with Tony. That’s one of the things that’s going to make this movie so much fun. [Side Note: I heard that Civil War will be clocking in close to two and half hours which just so happens to be the same running time of BvS. Yet with this film all I’m thinking is you could make it three and a half hours and I wouldn’t care. Bring it on! And that has to do with how well Marvel has built it’s cinematic universe.] As for the actual bad guys, I would like to see some Crossbones action and maybe a tease of Baron Zemo played by Daniel Bruhl (you’ll remember him as the sniper from Inglorious Basterds). The only complaint I have about Zemo is the fact that he won’t be wearing his iconic mask. Come on! That mask helped make him one of my favorite action figures growing up. He looked so badass. If I’m being honest, Baron Zemo, was the main villain to most of my action figure outings. Dude was bad news.
Other things I’d like to see:
- Black Widow torn between what side to pick. The first trailer made it seem that she turned on Cap pretty quickly. Would like to see some turmoil here.
- More of Black Panther and that sick costume. How about a little dialogue? Something.
- Ant-Man. The more I watch Ant-Man the more I enjoy it, and I’m looking forward to seeing his role in the MCU expand. I think he could add much needed comic relief to a movie that could be pretty heavy.
- Scarlet Witch and Vision doing the romance thing? What? It happens in the comics.
- More of that airport hanger battle. I hear that it has a running time of fifteen minutes. I would love if this trailer showed some more of these heroes throwing down.
For the most part I’m just jonesing for this trailer to drop. There is no movie I’m looking forward to more than Captain America: Civil War and all these trailers, posters, and trailers to upcoming trailers are doing is getting me more and more amped for it’s release. While the Avengers movies were the cornerstone of the MCU, Civil War has the possibility to reshape this universe and turn it on it’s head. I look forward to the hundreds of times I view tomorrows trailer.
Happy viewing Geeklings! Let me know what you think once the trailer drops.
