Week In Geek- 600th Post, NYCC Week, We Are Venom (?), & Rick Grimes Farwell Tour

Geeklings, I have to admit that last week I was kind of in a funk. I can’t really explain the ins and outs of it, but part of that funk was turning away from our 600th post. I just wasn’t in the right mindset to celebrate the achievement. I mean, 600 posts is something to be proud of and I spent the better half of last week feeling “blegh”. So with that “blegh” feeling I just avoided writing. Didn’t want any part of it. Just the way life kind of goes sometimes I suppose.

I am happy to announce that this is a brand new week and I can longer put off the inevitable. Geeklings, welcome to I Am Geek’s 600th Post!!!!!

I can’t believe it honestly. Our 600th post… man, I’m kind of floored. In the almost three years that this site has been around the content has been steady and proficient making it the most successful creative adventure I’ve ever taken. Four to five days a week I’m here and I’m doing what I love. Writing. And the experience has been soooooo rewarding on both a personal and professional level. I Am Geek has opened doors for me that I didn’t know I wanted open and now I refuse to close them.

Through this very site, I was able to get a job at Fan Fest News (another open door) where I’ve been building my catalog writing about television shows and comic books. Two things that bring me immense joy. And that experience has been incredible.

The idea of writing fuels me daily and now three years of I Am Geek and almost three at Fan Fest News has seen me build a catalog of over 1,000 columns. One. Thousand. I keep looking at that number waiting for it to sink in. There are over one thousand articles and posts with my name attached and I’m so very proud of that. Like, almost emotionally so.

As I Am Geek heads into its fourth year, I know that there are a lot of projects on the horizon. We’re looking to get the I Am Geek Podcast back and running on a more consistent manner with another secret podcast in the works, and I want to put out even more content. There’s just not enough time for me to write during the day, with a full-time job and all, but I want to get as much I Am Geek content to you as possible. This site is my driving force and I have loved these last three years so very much. Thank you for being a part of that. Thank you to anyone who has read just one word on this site. It means a great deal and I hope you keep coming back. The I Am Geek future is bright, and I can’t wait to share it with you, the Geeklings.

Now that that’s out of the way… you guys want to break down the upcoming week? Of course, you do! It’s Monday so that can only mean one thing… a brand new Week In Geek!

Image result for nycc 20181. New York Comic Con- It’s the most wonderful time of the year… seriously, NYCC is upon us and everything feels right in the world. I have spent the last month getting myself all types of hyped for this year’s con and now we’re only three days away from kickoff. I’ll be attending Friday and Saturday (stay tuned to my Twitter feed for updates) and need to crack down on figuring out my schedule. There are tons of comic book writers and artists on my to meet list this year, and even more panels I want to attend. I don’t think we’ll be able to attend everything but we’re going to try. Deadly Class will be premiering the first episode on Saturday, there’s going to be some Daredevil season three stuff, Into the Spider-Verse footage, HellboyThe Runaways season two, Brian Michael Bendis, not to mention The Walking Dead… this years con looks to be a blast and I get to share it with my favorite people. What more could you possibly ask for?

I’m hoping to catch a viewing Thursday night before comic con, buuuuut will also settle for a Sunday or Monday viewing. A part of me wants the film to be successful but that has me worried about the future of Spider-Man in the MCU. If Sony thinks they can pull off a standalone Spider-Verse, I can see them making trouble for Marvel down the line. That’s all just me thinking ahead though. Our main focus should be on Eddie Brock and the hope that maybe one day he can join the MCU. We’ve talked in the past whether or not a Venom movie can work without Spider-Man, and this Friday we’ll find out. All I know is with the Venom film and Donny Cates monthly comic series, it’s a good time to be a Venom fan.

walking dead 93. The Walking Dead season nine- I know there has been news circulating over the last week or so that AMC wants to do another ten years worth of The Walking Dead, and while that’s very ambitious and somewhat exciting, I can’t help but feel that it’s not very likely. That type of longevity is only been accomplished by The Simpsons and the content for the last two and a half seasons of The Walking Dead give no signs that it will be able to maintain that kind of momentum. With that being said though, a change is in the air as the show enters its ninth season. The Walking Dead has been in need of a change and this year will see the show in the hands of Angela Kang as Scott Gimple moves to oversee the universe. Out of all the things to look forward to this season, Angela Kang has me the most excited. I feel that Gimple had lost control of what made The Walking Dead the Walking Dead and had no idea how to properly structure a television show. Some fresh blood is more than welcomed. Along with a new showrunner, we’ll be saying goodbye to Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes… our main character. This is a bit strange for me considering that Rick is still alive in the comics and it was said that when he eventually passes that the story would transition to Carl… *gulp*. So much for that. This is a make or break season of The Walking Dead for me and I’m sort of looking forward to it. Here’s hoping that it can get back on track and that Rick’s farewell is handled with the reverence it deserves. Otherwise, we’re in for more of the same.

There you have it Geeklings. What are you looking forward to the most this week? How many of you are going to NYCC? Are you excited for Venom? Sound off in the comments or you can find me on Twitter @iamgeek32. Tomorrow starts our journey to 1200 posts… an exciting time to be alive!
