A very happy Monday to you Geeklings. It’s the day after the Super Bowl, which should be a national holiday but for some reason is not, which means we now live in a world without football until August. That’s the worst part of the Super Bowl. Well, maybe not the worst part about this year’s game cause man, that was rough. I love defensive struggles but this year’s Super Bowl wasn’t even entertaining. Just kind of moved along without any big plays and next thing you knew it was the fourth quarter and the Patriots had one. Was kind of hoping for something a little more out of this one.
The day wasn’t a bust though, there were some really good things to come out of the game pop culture related and if you look at my bold predictions you’ll see that I hit on a few of them. Not all of them but enough of them where I feel like I did a good job. Yay me!
As we head into our first week without football there are a bunch of things to help ease the pain, and for that, we’re very thankful. A new Week In Geek starts right now!
1. The Walking Dead returns- The landscape of The Walking Dead has changed and it’s quite possible that this might be the best possible thing to happen to the show. Rick Grimes is gone, dead to the other survivors and getting ready to make Walking Dead movies for the audience, and we’ve taken quite a significant jump in time. Michonne is fueled by rage, Maggie is missing, the communities are thriving, Negan is still in apocalypse jail, and Judith is now the Grimes we’re rooting for. We only caught a short glimpse of this new world of The Walking Dead before it went on break but call me optimistic. I think a shuffling of the deck could be something to really breathe fresh air into this series. On top of that, the Whisperers are pretty terrifying. I for one am very much looking forward to the second half of this season.
2. Hobbs and Shaw– If you recall there was a tremendous amount of drama surrounding the filming of this Fast and the Furious spin-off, looking at you Tyrese, but at this point, there is very little that can hold The Rock down. We got our first look at Hobbs and Shaw last Friday and I have to say, this thing looks the right type of awesomely bad. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s going to be entertaining as hell but I don’t expect it to be a good movie. That doesn’t mean I’m not going to watch it, in fact, it makes me want to watch it a little bit more. The best aspect of these Fast and Furious films is how out there they’re willing to go, and Hobbs and Shaw look like it’s going to take that premise and really push the limit. Idris Elba as a superhuman? Yes, please. Plus the chemistry between The Rock and Jason Statham is can’t miss stuff. I can’t wait for this!
3. Bud Light & Game of Thrones– Had I known that the “Dilly Dilly” commercials were building to this moment the entire time, I would have had a deeper appreciation for them. Now I feel compelled to go back and re-watch them all to see if there were any hints leading up to the biggest crossover we didn’t even know we wanted. That’s right the world of Game of Thrones found its way on to a Bud Light Super Bowl commercial and the results were spectacular. A buddy at our Super Bowl party made a joke about The Mountain being on the screen and then The Mountain was on the screen! There is little doubt that Bud Light won the night as the hype machine for Thrones continues to build. There’s just something about seeing a dragon burn up some really crappy beer.
4. Super Bowl Trailers- As expected, there were some pretty awesome Super Bowl trailer spots during last night’s snooze fest. Instead of talking about them all I’m just going to post my favorites right here for your eyeholes.
There you have it Geeklings, all the best of the week. What are you looking forward to the most? Is there something I didn’t even mention? Sound off in the comments or throw me a line on Twitter. Here’s to a kickass week! See you all tomorrow!
