Geeklings, I’m not going to mince words. Mostly because I’m kind of tired for a Monday. Don’t get me wrong, on Monday I’m a bit sluggish but that’s normal for anyone. The weekend just ended and now I’ve got to return to work and not sit in my chair at home reading comics or binge-watching television. That’s enough to make anyone sluggish. This particular Monday though… man, I don’t know. It could be the fact that the outside temperatures have reached the heat levels of the kitchens in hell. Maybe I burnt myself out a little with all the SDCC coverage because there was a lot to be excited about. Or maybe it’s just I’m tired because it’s Monday. Who knows maybe most likely a combination of the three.
With that being said, I’m going to jump right into this week’s Week In Geek so I can head to my chair, watch wrestling, read another issue of Black Hammer, and try not to fall asleep before Legion starts.
Let’s get things started with…
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood- The ninth film for Quentin Tarantino is finally here and it reunites him with both Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt. Taking place during the Manson Murders, Hollywood looks to tell the story of an actor on the decline and his stunt double mixed in with a whole bunch of craziness. With that as the backdrop and the poetic rhythm of Tarantino’s dialogue, I fully expect this to be a gem. If rumors are to be believed then we only have one Tarantino movie left so this could be his penultimate story before he moves on to a new adventure. After four years, I’m just happy to have a new Quentin Tarantino movie to obsess over.
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood- Is there a more perfect casting then Tom Hanks as Mr. Rogers? Seriously, try and think of one… nothing, right? I’ve often thought of Hanks as the human equivalent of a warm hug and A Beautiful Day… looks to showcase just that. I dare you to watch this trailer and not get those warm fuzzies inside. Here’s to a return to childhood and a reminder of the power of kindness.
The Boys- This one kind of crept up on me but from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, you know the guys who gave us the incredibly twisted Preacher series, comes a new series on Amazon that flips the superhero genre on its head. Based on the comic series by Garth Ennis (who also wrote Preacher), prepare your mind for swear words, violence, and superheroes like you’ve never seen them before. And for those of you who stress about shows getting canceled, fear not, The Boys has already been picked up for a second season. May your viewing experience be relaxed and full of craziness!
Avengers Endgame Passes Avatar- As of yesterday, Avengers Endgame officially passed Avatar as the number global box office champion, and just in time as Endgame is set to be released next week digitally. I Am Geek may have questioned the re-release but it seems to have worked out in the long run. Long live the king… of the box office!
There you have it Geeklings, all the best of the best to get excited about this week. As always, if you feel like there is something out there worth hyping be sure to share it in the comments. If you’d like to talk about any of these items you can throw me a line over on Twitter @iamgeek32. We’ll be back on Wednesday with a new Pull List, as my Legion writing duties will most likely keep me away tomorrow. Until then my friends…
