Week In Geek- Disney Expo, Ready or Not, & Steve Carell Returns To TV

“If Monday had a face, I’d punch” is a phrase that tends to be thrown around on, well, Mondays. No one wants the weekend to end and Monday often symbolizes this overwhelming defeat. The weekend is over and now I’ve got to work. For five straight days. Maybe six. Again. If Monday had a face, I’d punch it. And don’t get us wrong, we here at I Am Geek understand the thought process even though we don’t quite agree with it.

I know, this sounds like blasphemy but here at I Am Geek we love Mondays. Monday means it’s time for a new Week In Geek which means there’s a whole new bag of things to get excited about. A whole new bag of things to make the work week suck just a little less. It’s the tone-setter for the week here at the site. If we can kick things off with a solid Week In Geek entry then the rest of the week feels like it’s going to be gangbusters. Lately, content has kind of dried up faster than any number of movie desert analogies. I honestly couldn’t think of one… oh wait! Finn in The Force Awakens. Content has dried up quicker than Finn’s throat while walking the deserts of Jakku. Analogie saved!

We’ve been pushing through the lack of content though and I’m starting to feel that business could be ticking up as soon as this weekend. Why this weekend you may ask? Well, allow me to explain. This weekend is…

Disney Expo.jpgDisney Expo- That’s right, San Diego Comic-Con was just the beginning for Disney. Our first look at Marvel’s Phase Four was the top of the iceberg, and if you know anything about Disney, then you know they were saving all the good stuff for their own convention. When Infinity War was set to release it was at the Disney Expo where we got our first look of the Black Order and the audience there was even given the gift of seeing some of the first-ever footage of the film. I’m not going to lie, I scoured the internet looking for something, anything, but all I could find where write-ups. It drove me mad but raised those hype levels even higher. What can we expect from this year’s Expo? Well, Disney+ is only a few months away so I would imagine we’ll get a clearer idea of what to expect from the new streaming service. Perhaps even a trailer for The Mandalorian? Maybe a list of movies and shows that will be immediately available. Or a contingency plan of what to do when the app crashes because a million Disney fanatics stayed home from work to watch animated movies locked in the vaults. Outside of that I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a new trailer for The Rise of Skywalker or maybe even a teaser for Black Widow (which as been filming). I’m not holding my breath that any of this will be released to the public but I’m staying optimistic. Enough time has passed since SDCC where we’ve let ourselves mellow out, and Disney is here to get us riding the hype train once again.

Ready or Not- Last week, we talked about how Good Boys could be one of those summer movies that sneaks in under the radars and steals our hearts and money, and for all intent and purposes it did. Making twenty million opening weekend as the largest original comedy to do so in quite some time. Which is all types of awesome. As much as I love franchises I still would like to see original films succeed. I think this week we have another potential dark horse in our hands with Ready or Not, a dark comedy horror movie that sees a couple get married and then because of family tradition the wife is hunted by the family. Yes, it sounds bonkers, it looks ridiculous, but I can’t wait to park myself in front of the screen and see what we’ve got going on here. This has all the makings of just a fun time at the movies and something that could quietly slip in and run the box office for a week or two while no other big releases are on deck. Plus any trailer that uses “Unchained Melody” instantly has my attention. Instantly.

The Morning Show- We’ve known for a while that Apple was going to throw its hat into the streaming service ring, but I didn’t expect them to come out with so many big guns in their first show. Jennifer Anniston. Steve Carell. Reese Witherspoon. In a show about a morning news program that is going through some serious transition. This trailer looks awesome and I’m instantly curious to what Apple+ could have to offer. I’d watch this show and I can’t help but feel that there’s an Office nod with the choice of music. Those of you who know know what I mean.

There you have it Geeklings, all the best of the week to get you on your feet and moving towards the weekend.
