Geeklings, a very Happy Monday to you all! How was everyone’s weekend? Did you get to see Frozen 2 and all its glory? Cause man, let me tell you Geeklings, I loved it. Like sincerely. I absolutely loved it. It was so charming and sweet and emotional and just… the power of Disney animation, am I right? If you didn’t get to see it hopefully you find yourself in a movie theater later this week. Possibly with a food hangover. Or maybe with a hangover hangover. I’m not here to judge how you celebrate the holidays but I’m very happy that you’re going to be spending some time with me here at I Am Geek. Where we’re always thankful for your eyeholes.
But I’m getting ahead of myself. There is plenty of week ahead and there is plenty of things to get excited about. Nothing like coming to your favorite website on a Monday to find out all the best things to make your week even better. Because here at I Am Geek we care.
Let’s get this thing started, shall we?
The Irishman- At long last Martin Scorsese’s Teamster/mobster/hitman epic arrives at Netflix this Wednesday after an extremely limited theater release. Which I didn’t really understand to being with. Just wait a couple of weeks and watch it for the cost of your Netflix subscription as opposed to the billion dollars it costs to go to the theater nowadays. That’s all beside the point as this three and a half-hour opus, more reason to not do the theater, is finally within our grasp and if reviews are to be believed then this could be some of Scorsese’s best work. Which is saying something from someone who gave us Raging Bull, The Departed, and Goodfellas. Anytime you get Pacino, De Niro, and a talked out of retirement Joe Pesci you just know you’re in for something special. I also wouldn’t fully doubt the fact that Scorsese knows where Hoffa is buried which adds a new level of curiosity to the film. Very much looking forward to this one but need to carve out the 3.5 hours first.
Knives Out- Also out this Wednesday is the latest film by Rian Johnson, Knives Out. You might recognize from his super uncontroversial Star Wars film, The Last Jedi. But besides that film, Rian Johnson is quite the filmmaker. Responsible for two of my favorite Breaking Bad episodes (The Fly and Ozymandias) as well as the films Looper and Brick, there’s no denying that Johnson provides a unique voice to whatever project he touches. Knives Out looks like his take on a “who done it” murder mystery that’s filled with actual mystery and some, uh, cutting humor. With a spectacular cast that includes Captain America himself, Chris Evans, Daniel Craig, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, and Toni Collette to name a few. Sometimes it’s okay to watch a movie just to be enthralled and entertained for a couple of hours. Knives Out seems to deliver that in spades according to the reviews. I for one am really looking forward to this one. If nothing else it could re-ignite my passion for murder mystery parties.
Star Wars- Geeklings, we are less than a month away from the I Am Geek Star Wars Month but there are still Star Wars tidbits to get you excited for the week ahead. Like Star Wars Resistance Reborn, a recently released book that will have large ramifications on the upcoming Rise of Skywalker. Reviews for the novel have been glowing and it’s being dubbed the Avengers Endgame of the Star Wars universe as it brings together a slew of characters from books, comics, games, and movies to unite against the First Order. That alone should be enough to draw you in but mix in its importance to Rise of Skywalker and this suddenly becomes a must-read. If that wasn’t’ enough, how about the first clip of Skywalker that was released today? I have yet to watch it, still trying to stay sort of spoiler-free, but it sounds very swashbuckling and fun which is exactly what I’m looking for from this movie. Chances are I watch this thing before I fall asleep tonight but for now, I’m staying strong. All I know is it’s an exciting time to be a Star Wars fan and I Am Geek is ready for all of it.
Thanksgiving- Possibly my favorite holiday. What’s better than food, football, family/friends, and food? There’s nothing like a holiday that centers on celebrating what you have and who you have to share it with. And did I mention there’s food?! Yeah, I love Thanksgiving and I Am Geek is working on something a little special for you on Thursday. Providing the project comes together as planned. Be excited!
There you have it Geeklings, all the awesome in the week ahead. If you have anything that you’re looking forward to by all means don’t be shy. Let me know in the comments below or throw me a line over on the Twitter @iamgeek32. I’ll see everyone back here tomorrow with new content as we head toward Turkey Day. Be excited!
