There’s nothing like minding your own business and then getting hit in the face with a brand-spankin’ new trailer for a show that you’re uber-excited about. Do people still uber as a term meaning “very” or have we all submitted to the fact that it’s a car service that picks us up when we’re drunk? What makes the surprise arrival of a new trailer even better is you’ve been waiting for something, anything really, about this new season and posters and images are just not cutting it. Give me a trailer that’s going to put me on the train to Hype Town, USA. I suppose that’s the job of any trailer to take people to Hype Town, USA. No one ever makes a trailer with the intent of sending you to Disinterested Town, USA. That would defeat the whole purpose.
Anyway, here I was minding my own business and BOOM, a new trailer for the second season of The Umbrella Academy. Finally! The first season premiered February of 2019 or as it’s known in 2020, a literal lifetime ago. Since then, we’ve begged and pleaded for any information for the second season and have been met with a bunch of nothing. Well, not entirely true. We did get that Zoom trailer of the cast dancing which was super cute and we’ve gotten some posters and production stills. But outside of that… nothing!
Until today. Today we got our first official look at the second season of The Umbrella Academy and things look weird. Like super weird. Like there’s a guy who has a fishbowl, with a fish inside, as a head weird.
I for one can not wait for the return of this dysfunctional, superpowered, family. Throw in some good ole’ fashioned time travel, a plot that deals with the end of the world and possibly the JFK assassination, Klaus starting a cult, milkmen assassins, Diego punching himself in the face, and a Ben ghost that “can’t” time travel. All of these things add up to one thing… I’m in. I can’t freakin’ wait!
At first glance, it certainly appears that the charm from season one is still here but there are some large questions at play. Does anyone remember how they traveled back to the ‘60s? Is Vanya still a villain? What’s going to happen to Cha-Cha as it seems Hazel has a new look? What’s up with fishbowl head guy? All these questions have me really looking forward to this second season. Sometimes, you just need a little bit of weird in your life. Or a lot a bit if this trailer is any indication.
What did you think Geeklings? Are you excited for season two? What was your favorite part of the trailer? Who are you most excited to see again and why is it Klaus? Sound off in the comments or throw me a line on Twitter @iamgeek32. The Umbrella Academy season two will be dropping on July 31st. Let the theories and trailer dissection begin!
