Geeklings, I. Am. Tired. While you were all watching Game of Thrones (no spoilers as I have yet to watch it and will cut the person who chooses to spoil) I was at Madison Square Garden having my face rocked off by Pearl Jam. Three of the best hours in life my friends. I come to you going on three hours of sleep, with a raspy voice, my eyes burn something fierce, not seeing Game of Thrones, unsure if I’ll be able to stay away to see Game of Thrones, working a full day of work, and riding that high that comes after experiencing an amazing show. So before my eyes either disintegrate (which I’m not even sure is a thing but I’m also unwilling to find out) or just straight up close until tomorrow morning I wanted to get to our Week In Geek.
1. Captain America: Civil War: It’s finally here. Well almost here. It’ll be here Thursday night. I. Can. Not. Wait. For. This. Movie. Every since it’s announcement I’ve been jonesing for this, and each trailer has helped up the excitement levels. I know that there will be differences from the comics, and truthfully I’m okay with that. This can be the MCU equivalent while maintaining most of the major themes while giving us, what I expect to be, the best Spider-Man yet as well as… possibly the best super hero movie ever? I know that’s a lot of pressure and a bold prediction to make (I guess it’s safe to say that the Dark Knight currently holds that spot), but I’ve got this feeling brewing about this one folks. It’s the super hero movie that we deserve after enduring BvS. Marvel has carefully constructed this movie universe and this week they plan to tear it apart. Let’s do this already!
2. Free Comic Book Day- The first Saturday of May is the best Saturday in May. It also is all types of awesome. Free Comic Book Day is a tremendous idea that helps to get people into local comic shops where they can pick up free books (and hopefully buy some other stuff. Support your local business people), meet writers and artists, and just have a day filled with comic book glee. I was unable to attend last years Free Comic Book day as I was traveling for a family engagement, so you bet your sweet bippy that I’m going all out this year. I’m taking my friend Kristie to her very first FCB (possibly her first time in a comic book shop… is it?) mostly because I promised we could go to Denny’s afterwards. Make a note people, when trying to convince friends to do something geeky with you be sure to promise some sort of food. Food makes everything better. Besides that though I’ll be meeting Scott Snyder (of Batman fame) for an autograph signing at my comic book store of choice and probably babbling like an incoherent fan boy. “Mr. Snyder I really like your books”. Very insightful Kevin. Be sure to look up your local comic shops and pay them a visit. I know Marvel is planning to kick start Civil War II (it’s a free book) and I’m pretty sure DC will do something with that Rebirth thing they’ve been talking about. Free comics people.
3. Hot Topic Game of Thrones Jon Snow exclusive Pop Vinyl– Again I have not watched last nights episode of Game of Thrones so tread carefully, but this Pop Vinyl is a thing. A thing I need. Like yesterday. Give me, give me, give me, give me… please and thank you.
4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows– The time has finally arrived. My journey with Harry Potter is drawing to it’s end as I will be starting the Deathly Hallows tomorrow (would have been today but I needed to finish part two of the Green Mile and have I mentioned the burning that is my eyes?). I’m a little hesitant to start this one only because of the finality of it. The journey is coming to it’s wonderful, heart breaking, fantastic finish and I have to ready my mind and heart to say good-bye. Well at least until July 31st when the the script to the play gets released. I just have a feeling that this one is going to hurt like a bitch this time. Finishing book six on Friday really weighed on me so I can only imagine what this will do. Either way this journey has been so wonderful to relive again.
Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to sleep for like three days…
