Geeklings, we got quite the gift today. Right in the midst of another workday that was piling on the suck, I got a text from a buddy of mine asking if I saw the new Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse trailer. I had not but made sure to clear some time during a water break to give it a look see. What followed was a whole bunch of jumping up and down with excitement and maybe some positive profanity. You know the type, when you curse because you’re happy. We’ve all been there.
I seriously can’t say enough positive things about this trailer. Our first glimpse of the film a couple of months ago put Miles Morales at the forefront but the inclusion of the Spider-Verse in the film’s title had me wondering if he would just be sharing the spotlight. If this trailer is any indication it looks like Miles is about to become a breakout star. This will be his movie and all other Spider people look to gravitate around his narrative. That alone is enough to make me geek out.
I’m not going to lie, with Bendis’s recent departure from Marvel and the serious lack of Miles Morales comics in the future of the company (only one in August), I was growing a bit worried. This trailer has helped ease some of that concern. There’s no way that Marvel can let a character as important and as fantastic as Miles Morales just sit on the shelf. Especially when he’s about to blow up. I can breath easier knowing there will be more Miles comics.
Using animation as the gateway to introduce Miles to a public who only know Spider-Man as Peter Parker is a terrific way to open the door to the character. It doesn’t affect anything in the MCU and if nothing else it could start a serious conversation as to when we’re going to see a live action Miles Morales. I feel that it’s not a question of if but a question of when.
With Marvel wrapping up their MCU films in July, Into the Spider-Verse looks to be an awesome way to close out the year. What do you think Geeklings? Does this look good to you? Are you excited about seeing other potential Spider-Men (looking at you Spider-Ham)? Do you think this is the first step for Miles to break through the mainstream? Sound off in the comments. If you’d like to talk more Spider-Man with me you can find me on Twitter @iamgeek32. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to watch this another eight hundred times.
Oh, I see you Spider-Gwen! I see you…
