Heading Toward the End of 2021

Geeklings, can you believe the end of the year is upon us? Seriously, 2021 is only a few weeks away from becoming 2022 which is strange considering that 2020 and 2021 feel like one jumbo year where everything kind of snowballed and accumulated, and just when you were acclimating, BOOM, something new and awful happens and we fall further and further down the rabbit hole with no end in sight. And now 2022 is right around the corner and gods only know what new devilry this year will bring us and it’s all just a little exhausting at this point. I’m just so, so, so tired.

But hey (!), I’m forever an optimist and I refuse to believe that 2022 will be a bad year. I mean, it couldn’t possibly get any worse, right? Unless we’re thrust into an Independence Day-like situation. Somehow that would be worse. With the current state of the world, I don’t really see a Bill Pullman speech being enough of a rallying cry to get us to fight the battle of our lives against war-bent aliens. Plus, I think Randy Quaid is full Q at this point so no last-minute save there. So, let’s keep our fingers crossed that 2022 is not the year of aliens. We can substitute it with a squirrel uprising or something. That seems to be more on the level of things I can handle in 2022.

Seriously, staying optimistic about 2022 because it’s the best way to treat my mental health. Just think of what’s to come next year. Pearl Jam looks to finally be playing their dates from 2020 so that’s a score. Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness will be hitting our theater screens. Obi-Wan Kenobi and season three of The Mandalorian. Stranger Things. I think we’re getting The Last of Us on HBO. Tons of Star Wars High Republic reads. Some new League of Legends games. I also think we’re getting that gazillion-dollar Lord of the Rings Amazon show. Also Invincible season two and The Boys season three. Oh, and a new Batman film too. There is plenty of geekery to help make 2022 an awesome year, and that’s something to be excited about.

Before we jump into the new year though, we still have a couple of weeks of 2021 left and those weeks are stuffed with more awesome content than Clint Barton’s quiver. Look what’s on the horizon as we head to the 2021 finish line.

Like holy crap you guys, with the amount of content that’s still left to be released it seems like 2021 asked for an extension. Thankfully years can’t ask for extensions, this isn’t taxes people, so it’ll still be ending when the clock strikes midnight on December 31st. At least, I think that’s what’s going to happen. Who knows anymore.

As far as end of year here at I Am Geek, well, I’m glad you asked. There’s going to be a good amount of content trickling in to end the year strong. Except for next week when I’m on vacation. Don’t expect any written content next week. Sorry. But when written content comes back expect pieces on No Way Home, The Matrix, Hawkeye, Book of Boba Fett, and our always fantastic Best of… the year column. Cut off date for content will be December 22nd so anything after that won’t be included. Sorry, Boba.

Personally, it’ll be good to get back into the writing rhythm again as I’ve got some big writing plans for 2022 in my head that I’m excited to see become a reality.

So, Geeklings, friends, let us start our end-of-the-year prep now. Gear up and get hyped because we’re taking 2021 out with a bang and kicking open the door for 2022 while also muttering “please be nice to us”. It’s going to be great!
