When I went on FaceySpace yesterday and saw that there was yet another trailer for Batman vs Superman I let out a groan. I was less than pleased with the last one that was released. All the excitement I had been building for the movie seemed to vanish. Unlike most people my biggest concern for this movie wasn’t Affleck as Batman, I may be in the minority here, but I think he’s going to be great. My fear is that DC is trying to do something that Marvel took around five movies to do, and build a whole universe in one film. The trailer seemed way to packed and the arrival of Doomsday at the end didn’t really get my blood pumping the right way. Everything seemed like too much. Batman, Superman, Wonderwoman, Aquaman, The Flash (in some form), possible Joker appearance, and now Doomsday. The last trailer left me feeling like this film could be a train wreck.
I will honestly say that after yesterdays trailer restored some of those original excitement levels. I do like the dark tense tones of the film, and even though I know that a crap load of things are going to happen here, this trailer didn’t make the movie seem so overwhelming. I get DC feels the immediate need to compete with the MCU but doing it all at once just seems like it’s setting the film up to fail.
Right off the bat (pun intended) the Batman fight scene looked awesome (standing by my stance on Affleck). It looked like action straight out of an Arkham game which many would hold as some of the best Batman stories ever put together. Also Jeremy London as Alfred seems like it’s going to be all types of awesome, doesn’t it? From there I felt the trailer set the tone early that Superman could needs to be knocked down a peg or two, and the tension was real.
The simpleness of the trailer was appreciated and helped simplify the movie a bit. Batman is worried that Superman is a threat and they’re going to fight about it. Sweet. I’m in. That’s what the focus of all the trailers should have been. While I still feel that this movie could be a colossal mess, at least this trailer left me with a little bit of hope that maybe, just maybe, it won’t be. Plus how awesome is the look on Supes face at the end?! Take that boy scout!
