Geeklings, I hope everyone enjoyed their long holiday weekend. I sure as hell did. There’s something to be said about having three days off in a row with no work and a whole lot of relaxation. Granted, it would be far better if we didn’t have to live in hazmat suits and could actually spend time with friends and family, but a free workday is a free workday. I know you guys were expecting some written content yesterday but I threw a curveball at you with some new audio content. That’s right if you haven’t been paying attention, a new episode of the I Am Geek Podcast dropped yesterday and it’s an entertaining one. What happens when three people become a little punch drunk and quarantine crazy? Episode Six of the I Am Geek Podcast is what happens. If you haven’t subscribed already then you need to do so stat and be sure to leave us some ratings and reviews. We’ll even read them on the air. We have zero shame. We’re like Nicolas Cage or Post Malone in that manner. Now, I know very little about Post Malone other than the fact that he supplied a great song for the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Soundtrack (yes, that song is great don’t at me) and he gave a pretty solid Nirvana cover song performance early in the quarantine weeks, but I look at this Bud Lite drinking singer and with those face tattoos… he’s got to have no shame.
Other than that, I’m ready for a new week of quarantine, how about you? We’re entering Week 11 over here and what was once crazy town banana pants is suddenly becoming the new normal. I’ve grown to really enjoy working from home and the system my wife and I have created. Yes, I miss people and would give my left pinkie to see a new Marvel movie, but otherwise, we’re just doing what we need to until things hopefully clear up. Included in that doing what we need to is providing you guys with new content for your eyeholes. We’re not just an ear hole site. You’re welcome.
Included with that new content comes a brand-spankin’ new Week In Geek mapping out all the awesome in this last week of May. A month that moved faster than the other quarantine months. Is that a good sign or just a sign that we’re becoming accustomed to this life? I don’t know, I’m not a scientist. All I know there is some excellent content coming your way and I want to share the excitement with you. Starting with…
Space Force- At long last, Space Force is arriving on Netflix this Friday. When this show was initially announced I couldn’t help but feel that it was a joke. A new show from Greg Daniels starring Steve Carrell based on the ridiculous idea of a space force. Surely this couldn’t be real. But my friends, I’m here to assure you that this is as real as Pinocchio is. Daniels and Carrell have some history together, putting out a little show called The Office a few years back. Ever heard of it? This new series looks to be full of satire, an incredible supporting cast and is tackling some major current events. We’re talking like two weeks ago current where they released the Space Force flag. I fully trust both Daniels and Carrell and can’t wait to sit down Friday night and start moving through episodes. I think we could all use the funny right about now and there’s no better duo to provide that.
Rick and Morty Season Four Finale- And just as quickly as they returned, Rick and Morty will be vanishing from our television screens like a phantom in the night making us wonder if they were even there in the first place. Don’t worry, you didn’t hallucinate these last five episodes of season four like some sort of story train clip show. They were real and in my humble opinion better than the first half of the season. I like seeing that the show is ending strong, the last two episodes have been season favorites for me, but season four on a whole… well, it just seemed a little off. We’ll get more into that once the season concludes but for those of us who are wanting more Rick and Morty be sure to enjoy the season finale. I would tell you what to expect but this season has thrown curve by after curveball when it comes down to expectations. It’s best to just let the episode happen and then react accordingly. The good news here is that they’re already working on season six which means maybe the wait for season five won’t be so awful. One can dream.
HBO Max- Did you say you needed another streaming network in your life? Then you’re in luck as HBO Max will be dropping this Thursday. I suppose you’re wondering just why you should subscribe to another streaming network. Well, HBO Max will give you the only platform to stream shows like Friends, The Sopranos, Watchmen, Game of Thrones, Rick and Morty, and a tone of DC content like Doom Patrol, Arrow, and Flash. On top of that, through Max you’ll get the Friends Reunion Special whenever the world opens up again and the long-awaited, if not eye-roll inducing, Snyder Cut of Justice League… in 2021. HBO has tons of quality content and will be dropping this network with quite the of back catalog. The key to a proper streaming service release is giving your viewers more things to watch and HBO Max should deliver on that front. For now, if you have HBO Now you can access HBO Max through the HBO Now account until that gets taken away. I don’t know, the whole thing is kind of confusing but yay more streaming!
Last of Us Part II Gameplay Trailer- As if this week already couldn’t get any better, Naughty Dog has promised us a gameplay trailer of the Last of Us Part II tomorrow! If that beautifully brutal story trailer wasn’t enough for you, this will be a real opportunity to see how the game is played and things you can expect once the game is released on June 19th. At this point, I’m all in on any and all Last of Us II content, providing it has zero spoilers (be careful out there), and can’t wait to get a sneak peek of the game. I’ve already cleared out space on my PS4 so I’m basically just counting down the days at this point. Tomorrow’s trailer will only up the hype levels.
There you have it Geeklings, all the best of the best of the week ahead. As always, if you feel like there’s something you’re specifically looking forward to then sound off in the comments below. If you’d like to talk about any of these subjects or anything else you can find me on Twitter @iamgeek32. I’ll be back tomorrow with more new content for your eyeholes but in the meantime, you should most certainly be catching up on the I Am Geek Podcast because podcasts are fun!
