Geeklings, I’m really starting to enjoy these mailbag columns. Yes, I know it’s only the second one we’ve ever done buuuuuut it really helps in a week where work has my brain looking like mashed potatoes that were in the microwave for far too long. How does it help you ask? Well, my mush brain doesn’t have to come up with new content to write. Nope, you guys supply the questions and all I have to do is answer them. What a concept! No searching into the ether or the news feed to find a topic. You guys provide all the topics I need. You’re the real heroes today.
As you already know today’s mailbag consists of questions surrounding Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and you guys asked some doozies. I’m anxious to get to the answering so let’s quit the foreplay and jump right into the good stuff (that’s what she said)…

What are you MOST intrigued about?- Allen
When you think about it, we have barely scratched the surface of Phase Four. Yes, we’ve had a combined fifteen episodes between WandaVision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier but we’ve only dipped our toe in the collective Phase Four pool. We still have Black Widow, Loki, Shang-Chi, What If?, Thor God of Love and Thunder, Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness, Secret Invasion, Hawkeye, and others ahead. Say one positive about the pandemic, it certainly left us with a very full Marvel calendar. And I’m all for it.
None of that answered the question though, what am I most intrigued about? If I’m being honest, I’ve got to go all-in on the Wanda/Loki/multiverse stuff right now. I’m still feeling a WandaVision sized hole in the MUC since the show wrapped and I’m impatiently waiting for the next time we get to see the Scarlet Witch.
We’ve talked about this before, but with Wanda hearing the twins calling out for help, twins that are supposed to be gone, you just know she’s going to tear up the multiverse looking for them. And the ramifications of that should bleed into a bunch of other MCU properties. We already know she’ll be a prominent figure in the upcoming Doctor Strange but I can see her playing a role in Loki which will be dealing with the fractured timeline and Spider-Man No Way Home. Based on the rumors of No Way Home it certainly seems that we’re going to have some multiverse shenanigans going on and I would be willing to bet that Wanda (or Loki?) will be at the center of that.
I’m really into the MCU getting its weird on and I miss Wanda. WandaVision catapulted her into my top five favorite MCU characters and the more of her we get the better.

Are the Young Avengers coming to the MCU?- John
Yes, I think they are. Click here for a more in-depth exploration of why I think the Young Avengers are as inevitable as Thanos.

What are the Eternals?- Kyle
Full disclosure, I really don’t know much about the Eternals, yet, I find myself super excited for the film. From what I understand and the comics I have read, which is limited, the Eternals are these immortal-like beings who have shaped the universe over thousands and thousands of years. They have connections to Celestials, which have been discussed in the Guardians movies (Ego was a Celestial) and I think are believed to have shaped earth in their vision or something like that. While immortal, I do believe they can take long naps between either resurrections or time periods. Think Bucky being put on ice but by choice and forever on and off?
From what I understand of the movie, it’s going to span hundreds of years and will include a ton of Marvel cosmic history. I have a feeling it’s going to be a visually stunning film especially if they go full Kirby on it (Jack Kirby is the creator of the Eternals). This falls into the Marvel Getting Weird category and I’m all for it. The popularity of the MCU allows them to explore lesser-known properties and make them household names. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that there are rumors Thanos could be showing up in the Eternals movie. Throw in something familiar with something casual fans are puzzled about.

Will Agent Carter ever figure out that she actually made out with her Uncle? If so, will that knowledge make her go insane and become the big bad of Phase Four?- Ed
Okay, let’s address the first part of this question, the kiss. I think this becomes the MCU Luke and Leia Empire Strikes Back thing. It’s a kiss that very much happened, Sam and Bucky observed quite supportively and creepily, but they don’t want us to hyper-focus on it. If you go with the belief that Captain America created a fractured timeline when he married Peggy then technically they’re not related. But it doesn’t stop it from being a moment filled with “ick”.
Let’s focus on the second part of this question about Sharon becoming the big bad of Phase Four. Do I think she’ll be the big bad? No. Do I think she’s got a larger part to play going forward? You bet your sweet bippy I do.
With the reveal that Sharon Carter is indeed the Power Broker, and now that she’s been pardoned by the government, we’re going to get to see Sharon operate in the shadows a bit more. I know the internet wants to believe that she’s a Skrull but I’m not buying it. I think she’s jaded and kind of playing both sides of the coin. I expect her to be a big part of the upcoming Armor Wars show, perhaps even responsible for selling Tony’s tech to some shady cats. Maybe she’s even working with Justin Hammer to some degree. I can also see her being a part of Secret Invasion but more using the chaos of a possible Skrull infiltration to fulfill her new agenda.
I think Sharon’s story has a lot more development to do and I see her being an active part of Phase Four. There are some gaps that need to be filled in and I’m curious to see what the, umm, endgame with the character is.

West Coast Avengers…why?- Brendon
Now, I know this question was mostly made in jest but I don’t see it being out of the realm of possibilities for the MCU moving forward especially with the introduction of White Vision. Is that what we’re calling him? I don’t know, it seems weird. But nonetheless, White Vision and Wanda were large parts of the West Coast Avengers.
Could I see a possible West Coast Avengers tv series at some point? Yeah, I could. Disney+ seems like the avenue for that property to travel and would include quite the array of characters especially if they focus on Kelly Thompson’s most recent run. Give us Jeff the Shark you cowards! Do I think we see it anytime soon? No. I think we’re leaning more towards the Young Avengers, another group that Vision was a part of, and possibly the Thunderbolts (lead by Zemo) or Dark Avengers (lead by Val and possibly US Agent).

Are we building up to Secret Wars?- TJ
I think this question depends on the lasting impact of Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness and Loki. If the multiverse problems continue after those projects, then one hundred percent we’re heading towards Secret Wars and a possible return of the Russo Brothers who are very much on record on wanting to direct that film. I want to believe the big issue for Phase Four will be the multiverse and the timeline fracturing and this could certainly be where we’re heading.
Buuuuut if the multiverse issue is cleaned up neatly by the end of Doctor Strange… I think there’s still some time before we see a live-action Secret Wars. Personally, I don’t want to see this story until we have an MCU Doctor Doom which I think Falcon and the Winter Soldier laid the groundwork for.

Who do you think Emilia Clarke is playing in Secret Invasion?- TJ
From Mother of Dragons to… Queen of the Skrulls? That’s what I’d put my money on. Yes, it’s the very obvious answer but it kind of feels like the only answer too. Don’t get me wrong, the MCU has been great at subverting our expectations but I’ve got a feeling that Clarke will be the head of the Skrull army trying to invade earth. This means I think we see her character well before Secret Invasion drops. This way there’s more impact to learning that she’s a Skrull.
In the comics, I believe the Queen of the Skrulls had taken over Jessica Drew’s body, Spider-Woman, but because of Sony, I don’t expect that to be the case here. So, who could the MCU introduce Clarke as that would have some impact when we learn that she’s Skrull royalty? Probably a SHIELD/SWORD higher up that we meet in Captain Marvel 2 or Ms. Marvel or something? But if I was a betting man, I’d bet your house that we now have the Queen of the Skrulls casted.
There you have it Geeklings, another successful mailbag. Damn, these are fun! Thanks to everyone that participated as your questions were much appreciated.
